May 28, 2012

Yellow Allamanda is an evergreen, tropical shrub naturalized in the Western Ghats of India growing vigorously to a height of 2m and above. The plant’s main attraction are its yellow, trumpet shaped flowers, hence it is also known as Golden trumpet.

The plant is found growing along riverbanks and despite being an evergreen it is highly sensitive to frost. In Kerala, the allamanda is a common ornamental in public spice gardens. The plant additionally has some anti-bacterial and anti-cancer properties.
